The Agnostic Mom

Noell Hyman
I would like to make a website recommendation for any parent who is agnostic, or just not religious. http://www.agnosticmom.com/

I recently stumbled on to this little gem of a weblog and thought I would take the opportunity to share it with you. The author is Noell Hyman, the goal of her site it to provide advice and information for raising a healthy family without religion, and may i say i found it very informative and practical.

Noell offers alternatives in dealing with everyday issues that are normally handled by religious concepts. Most of her blogs involve one of her experiences with one of her two children, who are both under the age of 5. Noell goes through takes the time to provide in-depth explanation of why she handled each situation the way she did, leaving the reader with a full understanding behind her motives and actions.
One a perfect example of her expertise is found in a post called Telling your children about death.

As I have said before, children are very curious about mortality even at a young age. When the subject came about in my house, I used similar explanation's as Noell to try and explain the concepts of death.

As an agnostic, I feel it its important to keep my children aware of both sides of the argument. I try to give them insight into both religious and non-religious perspectives. I try not to push my agendas on to my children. When they get older they can choose what to believe based on their own feelings and thoughts, rather that what was force-fed to them throughout their childhood. Take the author Of the Agnostic Mom for example: She offers her children non-religious explanations that help her children understand death, yet the they still have religious family members, and religious awareness. This will keep them very objective, and most likely will have a non-bias point of view on most issues that they face in their lives. Excellent blog, and I hope you all will give it a chance.
